Sustainability

Spring Hotels has been in Tenerife for almost forty years and runs six four- and five-star hotels in the municipality of Arona. Sustainability is not a separate chapter of that business: it shapes how we buy, how much energy and water we use, and how we work with the people of the island.

Every year we publish a report on what we have achieved and what is still pending. It follows the GRI Standards and the requirements of Spain’s Law 11/2018 on non-financial information, and you can read it in full at the end of this page.

2025 in figures

  • 111.87 fewer tonnes of CO2 in Scope 1 emissions.
  • Scope 2 emissions at zero, once again.
  • 37.16% fewer single-use plastic bottles.
  • 54.55% less waste per guest.
  • 6% more local suppliers.

Figures refer to Arona Gran Hotel, Hotel Vulcano and Hotel Bitácora. The hotels in Playa de las Américas joined the group in July 2025 and will be included in the next report.

Certifications

In 2025 we renewed Travelife and Biosphere at the three audited hotels. These are our current certifications:

  • Travelife Gold, under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council criteria, at Arona Gran Hotel, Hotel Vulcano and Hotel Bitácora.
  • Biosphere, at Arona Gran Hotel, Hotel Vulcano and Hotel Bitácora.
  • ISO 9001, quality management, at Arona Gran Hotel.
  • ISO 14001, environmental management, at Arona Gran Hotel.
  • Carbon footprint calculation and reduction seal at Arona Gran Hotel, Hotel Vulcano and Hotel Bitácora.

Energy and water

Electricity at Arona Gran Hotel and Hotel Vulcano comes from 100% renewable sources. In day-to-day operations, switching to a range of cleaning products with strict environmental criteria, whose packaging is collected by the supplier itself, saved us 1,655,540 litres of water and 186,347 kWh last year.

Local produce

The fruit and vegetables in our kitchens come from the Canary Islands whenever possible. Our agreement with the fruit and vegetable company FAST, signed in December 2024, gives hundreds of Canarian farmers an outlet for their produce and cuts food transport. In 2025 we added a framework agreement with Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias, the Canary Islands Government’s public company, as part of the Crecer Juntos strategy.

Our people

In 2025 our average workforce was 1,250 people, 49 of them at head office and the rest at the hotels. We keep a high share of permanent contracts, because a stable team is the foundation of a service that lasts.
